Psalm 91:2
I will say of the Lord, “He is my REFUGE and my FORTRESS…”

God is our protection… just like a FORTRESS or a REFUGE. Do you know the difference between the two? A FORTRESS is a place of protection surrounded by walls. The person inside is safe from enemies or danger on the outside because it is kept completely away by means of the WALLS. But, a REFUGE is slightly different. There might not be any walls around a REFUGE to protect those inside. They are protected nonetheless, simply by a LAW that says, “Anyone who harms those within the boundaries of this REFUGE will be severely punished.” In simplified terms, those inside a FORTRESS are protected by WALLS… those inside a REFUGE are protected by LAWS.

There are times in life when we feel “completely surrounded” by God’s love and protection. There is a very real sense that HE is surrounding us, just like the walls of a mighty fortress. There are times, however, when the only sense of security and protection that we experience is just in this one thought, “God is my REFUGE… I am IN HIM; therefore I am protected. He has given command that any who would try to bring me harm will do so to their own hurt.” Even the most daring demon of Hell will think twice before trespassing upon property that God has said is OFF LIMITS.

If you are a child of God, you are protected… by a WALL and by a LAW. When you understand this, it brings an element of FEARLESSNESS, COURAGE and CONFIDENCE to your life. It will make you say things like, “The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear” (Psalm 27:1) and, “If God is for me who can be against me” (Romans 8:31).

My Confession for Today:

“GOD IS MY REFUGE. He has posted a NO TRESPASSING sign on my life. Those who have intentions of bringing me harm will discover that they do so to their own hurt.”
