What are the only recorded ages of Jesus found in the Bible? 12 and 30. At the age of 12 we find Jesus in the temple talking with the elders and Pharisees and astounding them with his wisdom (Luke 2:42). In Luke 3:23 the Bible tells us that Jesus was about 30 years old when he started his ministry. So what about the 18 years of his life from age 12 to 30? Were they important? What did he do? The only thing we know for sure about those years is what is recorded in Luke 2:52, “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man.”
There are many young people these days who are struggling with their direction in life. They thought that by the age of 18, 19, or 20 they should have some firm sense of direction, some feeling of purpose and destiny. Instead, they feel like nothing is happening for them, and that their lives are aimless and direction-less. But if the Son of God didn’t make any headlines between the ages of 12 and 30 there isn’t any reason to put undue pressure on yourself. The important thing to remember is that Jesus “grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man.” And that’s the best thing that a young person can do while they are waiting on their destiny to unfold.
1. GROW in WISDOM (learn from those who have already learned in life)…
2. GROW in STATURE (take care of your body and keep it healthy and strong)…
3. GROW in FAVOR WITH GOD AND MAN (live the kind of life that God would put His blessing upon, and that men would give their seal of approval on.)
It is these small things that you do now (just like Jesus did in his 20s) that will pave the way for your future no matter what your destiny might be. So, take a lesson from Jesus when He was in his 20s… GROW!
Job 8:7 “Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.”
