When my kids were preschool age they liked for me to play “Hide and Seek” with them in our home. It was always a challenge for me to find a hiding place that could conceal all 6 feet 3 inches of my frame. One particular day I remember cleverly concealing myself behind a coat rack in the corner of the living room. My upper torso and head were covered by coats and jackets but my legs were completely uncovered. As I spied through the jackets I could see my kids walk by looking for me. They must have passed right by me a half dozen times. After having no luck in finding me they got distracted from the search and gave up. To pull them back into the game I let out a little yelp to get them focused back on the search. It was so cute to see their little faces light up when they finally found me.
It is a challenging quest that we are on, for those of us who call ourselves “Christians.” God’s Word encourages us with such passages as “seek the Lord while He may be found,” and “You will seek Me and find me, when you search for me with all your heart” (Isaiah 55:6, Jeremiah 29:13). He does not conceal Himself totally from our view. He gives us helpful “hints” on how to find Him if we will pay attention. But, life brings so many distractions our way that we often give up the search and lose our focus. If we will listen closely though, we will hear His voice calling us back to the search. He knows what awaits us if we don’t give up, for Hebrews 11:6 tells us that “He is a rewarder of those who seek him DILIGENTLY.”
Don’t give up “the quest!” Keep searching until you get the REWARD!
Matthew 7:7-8 (NIV)
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
Acts 17:27 (KJV)
That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us.
