I just can’t get away from the thought that there is a REALLY important reason why angels circle God’s throne day and night and continually repeat “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty” without ceasing, throughout eternity. Think of all the words that describe God that could be spoken and repeated around His throne. It could have been “Love, Love, Love is the Lord God Almighty” or “Powerful, Powerful, Powerful is the Lord God Almighty” or “Merciful, Merciful, Merciful is the Lord God Almighty” or even “Joy, Joy, Joy is the Lord God Almighty.” But, instead the word “HOLY” is used… a word that is so appropriate and fitting and accurate in describing God’s character that it is eternally spoken around His throne. And, the fact that it is spoken without ceasing tells me something else… that somehow this word “HOLY” has more meaning in Heaven than it has here on Earth. How easily we would tire and grow bored of continually saying “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty” in a worship service here on Earth (for even the short span of one hour). But, there is no boredom in Heaven and new meaning of His holiness is extracted each time the word is spoken. It does not become redundant, but instead, new revelation of God’s holiness is unveiled each time it is spoken, so that those speaking it never tire in saying it and repeating it.
Oh, that we on Earth could get even the smallest revelation of what that word HOLY means. Perhaps we would not be so quick to hold on to our pet sins, our complaints and our unforgiveness if we understood what HOLY means. Perhaps we would fight with greater fervency when tempted by the wicked one to succumb to the lusts of our flesh if we fully grasped God’s holiness. But, alas, we are here on Earth where we “see through a glass darkly” and a veil covers our eyes to the great revelation of this one word that best describes our God in Heaven…… HOLY.
Revelation 4:8
And they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
