Psalm 41:4
I said, LORD, be merciful unto me: HEAL MY SOUL; for I have sinned against thee.

Some sins affect our flesh… some our soul. It’s easy to see the ones that affect our flesh. It’s not so easy to see the ones that affect our soul. The meth addict has rotten teeth, the alcoholic has a bad liver, the promiscuous person has STDs, etc., etc. But, what about the unforgiving, the envious and the bitter? Their sin does not affect them outwardly as much as inwardly. Their flesh may not need to be healed… but their soul does.

How sad it must be to be physically, outwardly whole yet inwardly broken and in need of repair. You can fool others, who can only see what is outwardly manifested in your life, but YOU are not fooled. You know your soul is not right. This is what David was most likely expressing when he wrote the above passage in the book of Psalms. David is also quoted as saying, “He restores my soul.” (Psalm 23)

We are more than just physical beings. We have a soul… a soul that can be just as guilty of sin as our unbridled flesh… a soul that needs healing from time-to-time. Though all may seem okay with us outwardly, our souls can be diseased and afflicted. A good bit of soul searching would do us all good… followed by a good bit of “soul healing.”

My Prayer for Today:
“Lord, forgive me of the sins I’ve committed that have affected my soul. Sins that have been covered up, that others can’t see, but that I am aware of, and You are aware of. I repent of the sins in my soul and I know that as I repent of them that You forgive me and bring healing to my soul.”

Psalm 139:23-24
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me.
