I woke up one morning singing a song inside my head that I learned in a dream from the night before. When I awoke from my dream at 2:30am, I immediately went to record the song on my iPhone so I wouldn’t forget it. The neat thing about the song I learned was that this dream took place in Heaven, where all people had perfect joy, purity and unity in all that they did. The song was very simple with just 8 simple words to it … WE CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH GOD’S STRENGTH.

There was a large group of people gathered together … their gathering was purposeful, although I would not say that it was planned. As the people milled about, a spontaneous song came forth from the crowd. Little by little, small groups within the large crowd took ownership of different parts of the simple song, singing in echoing refrain the words that the previous group had sung. Then spontaneous dancing broke out … so much like an organized, well-rehearsed “line dance.” but I knew in my heart that each individual danced in perfect unity with the others not because the dance had been rehearsed, but because each person was in tune with the hearts of the others present. Each person anticipated the next moves of the dance in perfect unity … the dance was being “created” by the entire group.

I was not aware of any race or gender that was present through my physical eyes, but I know that I heard the raspy, soulful voices of my black brothers throughout the song as they added their unique voice inflections to the simple tune, bringing a beautiful complexity into the simplicity. I also heard ethereal female harmonies throughout, as they echoed in octaves men are not able to reach, taking the pitch of the song to higher heights. There were so many distinctive sounds that I knew there were voices of every race, age and gender present to create such a beautiful melody and harmony. Smiles and laughter abounded throughout the crowd of people. My eyes connected with one of the singers and I received a smile that spoke to me of joy and peace … the smile said so much without a single word being spoken. There was such unity and harmony present, and yet, great diversity too. Yes, it had to be Heaven! I sang that simple little song the rest of that day …WE CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH GOD’S STRENGTH.

Perhaps one day I will record the song for others to hear. But, I fear that I would not do it the justice it deserves. After all, how can just ONE VOICE replicate the beauty of a Heavenly choir. Yes, we need each other … we need to hear the voices of others … to see the smiles of others … to dance with others … to be in unity with others, while singing our particular part and portion of the song that is in the hearts of all God’s children. But, we are broken and divided here on Earth. The evil one has created this division and torn us apart. But God will get the final Word. All of His Children will one day know what perfect unity is. We will be part of something beyond our selves in Heaven, where race, age and gender are not cause for division, but create a perfectly blended harmony that could never be achieved by just one single race, age or gender. That is what God does … He takes diversity and brings perfect unity … that is the glory of Heaven.

Revelation 7:9-10
After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
