While we were still in our mother’s womb we were connected to her by means of an umbilical cord. That connection was our “life source” and without it we would not have survived. When we were born that cord was cut… our life source and supply would now be dependent on what the Earth could supply. So we spend many years of our early lives trying to connect to the things of the Earth to fill our needs and desires. But, because the Earth is cursed, though we are filled by it we still remain empty because our new life source is imperfect and corrupt. This can lead a person to depression, feelings of hopelessness and unhappiness.

However, when a person gets “born again” they get connected to the Kingdom of God by means of a spiritual umbilical cord. Their life source and supply now comes from a place of limitless abundance. No longer connected to the Earth for their supply or happiness, believers do not display the same concern over faltering economies and politics as those still tethered to the corrupt Earth system. Their source and supply remains unhindered no matter what happens in the Earth system. No wonder Jesus used these words in His prayer to the Father to describe His followers: “They are not of this world, even as I am not of this world.” (John 17:16) When an unbeliever dies, still connected to the Earth as his source and supply, there is no life transferred from the Earth to his mortal flesh… he is truly, completely dead. But when a believer dies, still connected to Heaven’s supply by means of that spiritual umbilical cord, he is resuscitated by that supply and transferred into Heaven’s splendor without undergoing the pain and torment associated with death.

So, taking all of this into consideration, ask yourself today where your life source and supply comes from. Does it come from a faltering Earth system that can never fully satisfy? Or, are you connected to the unlimited supply provided through the “umbilical cord” of Heaven?
