After the major earthquakes in Nepal in 2015, I was thinking about the tremendous impact earthquakes have. I recalled something a friend of mine who had been in an earthquake told me. She said, “The worst thing about an earthquake is that feeling that the earth beneath your feet, that has supported you and that you’ve put so much trust in throughout your life, no longer feels reliable or dependable.” What an incredible thought! If this earth can be shaken, and you can no longer have faith in its ability to hold you up safely and securely, where else can you put your faith for security and safety? When the thing you’re standing on fails you, it’s time to find a new foundation for your life.
God will let every false foundation in your life fail until you get to the place where you put your complete trust in Him. HE CANNOT BE SHAKEN. He is the most reliable foundation on which to build your life. If any of your “life’s foundation” has failed you in recent weeks and months, it’s quite possible that you’re going through a time of SHAKING. When you’re firmly standing on no other foundation except Jesus, the shaking process is completed.
My Prayer for Today:
“Lord, shake me! Shake the things out of my life that pretend to be my security and a firm foundation beneath my feet, but have no ability to hold me up in my times of crisis. You alone are my foundation!”
Hebrews 12:26-28 (NIV)
At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken–that is, created things–so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that CANNOT BE SHAKEN, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe
