All who live have one thing in common,
From the lowly simpleton to the wise old shaman.
Both the strong and the weak, the tame and the wild,
We have all seen through the eyes of a child.
Yes, we were all babes, at one time or another,
Each quite dependent on father or mother.
Helplessly needing their care and attention,
The world was brand new without strife or dissension.
In ignorant bliss of life’s reality,
We didn’t know hatred, had no enemy.
Our knowledge was limited. But, we laughed and we smiled.
What purity and innocence we had as a child.
But now we’ve grown older, no innocence at all.
Our brains are enlarged, but our hearts are so small.
So easily angered, so quickly offended,
It’s so sad to see that our innocence has ended.
So I make this request, yes I have one plea,
That the child once in you sees the child once in me.
And just for a moment let’s return to our youth,
Revisit our beginning, remember simple truth.
Go back to a time when our hearts weren’t defiled
To the time we all saw through the eyes of a child.
Matthew 18:1-3 (NIV)
At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”
