I am a very big believer in the POWER OF WORDS. Having said that, however, I’d like to offer the following observation. When God wanted to create the Earth and the Universe it was a simple process… He spoke WORDS… and whatever He spoke came into existence. He showed us the power that words have when He did that. God’s WORDS have creative power. (Ours do, too.) BUT, when God wanted to show His love and forgiveness toward mankind it was not as simple as “speaking WORDS.” If He could create the Earth and the Universe by speaking words, why could He not extend forgiveness and love to mankind through speaking words? He could have spoken from Heaven, for all to hear, “I love you… You are all forgiven!” But, that was not the solution.
The action of love and forgiveness took something special. John 1:14 tells us that “THE WORD BECAME FLESH and dwelt among us.” The answer to the situation did not come by God “speaking WORDS” but rather by God “showing WORDS.” The words “I LOVE YOU” and “I FORGIVE YOU” were wrapped in flesh, in the form of Jesus Christ. The spoken words “I love you” can be doubted… but when you see what Christ did when He died on the cross for you and me, you not only HEAR “I love you” you can also SEE “I love you.”
You’ve heard the saying “Actions speak louder than Words.” Actions are WORDS THAT BECOME FLESH. You can say, “I’m going to go on a diet,” but those are just “words” until you follow through with the action… until the WORDS BECOME FLESH. And, you can say, “I love God and give Him my life” but those are just “words” until you follow through with the action… until the WORDS BECOME FLESH.
Yes, words are powerful, but the most powerful words you will speak today may not actually come from your mouth. The most powerful words you speak today will be your WORDS THAT BECOME FLESH AND DWELL AMONG US.
