I conducted a chapel service for elementary kids at a local christian school. I asked for four volunteers to come to the stage to play a game. I showed the four students a clear five-gallon container filled with play sand that I had placed on a table and told them that their job was to dig into the sand to find money that I had buried. Eyes lit up when I told the kids that whatever money they found was theirs to keep. I also told them that there was well over $20 buried in the sand. I then gave each child 10 seconds to dig and pull out as much money as they could. All 4 kids dug up varying amounts of money. One little boy dug up 83 cents in change and one little girl found only a single penny. When the game was over I reminded the kids that I had said whatever money they found was theirs. I then lifted the clear container full of sand above the children’s heads so they could see through the clear bottom of the container. A crisp $20 bill laid flat on the bottom of the container, buried beneath the sand. “Oohhh’s” and “Aahhh’s” filled the room as I showed the whole audience the sizable amount of money that was available to all four students who played the game but had only come up with a few coins that amounted to less than $2. Game over … lesson time.
Hebrews 11:6 says that “God is a rewarder of those who seek Him diligently.” I asked the kids if they knew what the word “Diligence” meant. I explained that “diligence” means to give yourself and your energy and best effort towards doing something. God promises to REWARD those who seek Him with diligence … to those who “dig deep” in their pursuit of Him. Many will be satisfied by just scratching the surface of what God has to offer us in this life. The thought of putting forth extra effort to achieve better and more rewarding results sometimes seems too costly. If one of those kids had dug deeply in pursuit of the buried money in that plastic container I would have given them that $20 bill. I promised that whatever money they found would be theirs … and I’m a man of my word. God has also made some promises for those who pursue Him with diligence. He’s promised a REWARD … and HE is a God of His word!
Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
