My wife clipped a bloom from our Magnolia tree and put it on the kitchen counter. When I saw it there on the counter, I got up close to take a whiff. Wow! What an awesome fragrance it had.
A few days later, I passed by the bloom on the counter and noticed that it had started turning brown. After walking by, I thought to myself: “I wonder if it still smells as good as it did a few days ago.” Out of curiosity I turned around and bent over to take another whiff. In my mind I was anticipating sort of a stench since the petals were brown. I was pleasantly surprised, though, as the awesome fragrance from a few days earlier still permeated its petals.
So, here’s my word of exhortation for today:
Just because you’re “getting old” doesn’t mean you have to lose your fragrance.
2 Corinthians 4:16
Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.
2 Corinthians 2:15
Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God.
