Sarah, Hannah, Rebekah, Rachel, Manoah’s wife, and Elizabeth … Do you know what these six women of the Bible had in common? The Bible says that they were all BARREN, which means that they weren’t able to have children … they couldn’t get pregnant … their wombs were EMPTY. We don’t know the factors that led to the physical condition of each of these women. All we know is that they longed to have a baby inside them, but were not able. But, each of these women received a miraculous touch from God, healing their barreness and FILLING their EMPTINESS. Sarah gave birth to Isaac, Hannah gave birth to Samuel, Rebekah gave birth to Jacob and Esau, Rachel gave birth to Joseph, Manoah’s wife gave birth to Samson, and Elizabeth gave birth to John the Baptist. All of these men were GREAT MEN of the Bible.

This tells me something very important about God. Sometimes when we’re experiencing EMPTINESS within ourselves it is because God is wanting us to look to Him to FILL US. We try “everything we know” in our flesh to achieve the results we want, to no avail. In our desperation to fill the void within us we call out to God and we ask Him to fill us, and that is when our miracle begins to happen. He plants a seed within us … a seed that grows. And, as it grows, it begins to FILL US … and when it fills us completely, it is then that we “give birth” to something GREAT. And, because we know so well how completely EMPTY we once were, we don’t take any credit at all for the thing that we “gave birth to.” No, instead we give God all of the glory for what took place.

If you’re feeling empty at this point in your life, you can either be resolved to live a life of EMPTINESS and BARRENNESS, or you can call out to God to FILL you … to put something within you … (dare I say, “to impregnate you.”) And when He does fill you, you will remember how empty you once felt, and will not be inclined to take any credit for this GREAT thing that He has put within you. You will give all glory to Him, and will understand where the blessing came from. Emptiness will only be a memory to you. That “feeling” will be replaced with a “filling!”

Psalm 113:9
He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the LORD!

Hebrews 11:11
By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.
