Someone asked me a very interesting question: “If God wants us all to be Christ-like why doesn’t He just MAKE us that way?” I answered the question with two questions of my own: “If God wants all of us to be adults, why aren’t we born adults … and if God wants full-grown trees why did he create seeds?” Have you discovered yet that God sets “processes” into motion, and hat He enjoys seeing progress in His creations?
If God wants me to be a mature adult, why wasn’t I born one? The first, most obvious reason is that it would have been a VERY painful delivery for my mother to give birth to a 6ft. 3in. man! But beyond the obvious, I believe God delights to see growth and development … to see the processes, that He set in motion, at work.
Why did God create seeds if what He really wanted was trees? Once again, He delights to see GROWTH. The subtle changes that take place when a seed becomes a sprout, a sprout becomes a shoot, a shoot becomes a trunk, and a trunk produces branches which in turn produce leaves and seeds … it’s an awesome sight in the eyes of God. So also is the growth process when a sinner becomes a baby Christian, a baby Christian grows and develops character, and character produces integrity, and then fruits of the Spirit begin to grow … fruit that others can partake of and enjoy. What an awesome sight in the eyes of God. Yes, you are a work in progress … a process that God Himself ordained! Enjoy the process today!
Mark 4:28
For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.
2 Peter 3:18
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
